On Saturday, Justin took to the clay dirt oval for the first time, only a few weeks after the Bakersfield Karting Experience opened to the public. Up in the area to watch somes races later that evening at Kern Raceway, Justin got to run six sessions (about 20 laps each) on the first indoor arrive and drive dirt track in the US. In the first few races, he played it a bit too safe, running it like asphalt and maintaining control the whole time. After that, he warmed up to the dirt and decided to push the limits of the kart's drifting abilities, spinning it out quite a bit but having a blast the whole time. Finally, he got the hang of it and was able to split the difference, diving the corners hard and then staying on the gas and sliding it up the track into the turns, getting some of the fastest times of the races on the track. All in all, it was a load of fun, and dirt racing is definitely something he's looking forward to doing again, hopefully outdoors in Ventura or somewhere else with a dirt oval. He gained some useful experience as well, learning some insight on how he can push his CRG machine a bit further on asphalt and shave some time off in future races.
