After a long fought battle all day long, Justin managed to grab a second place finish in his second race with Tri-C Karters at CalSpeed in Fontana, CA in the LO206 Junior Class. Justin drove impeccable races in qualifying, both heats, and the main, but was at the mercy of a gear ratio setup that was not quite as good as it could have been. In practice the week before, seven sessions with all the ratios available to his team allowed him to shave five seconds off his lap-times. However, with a 14-tooth drive gear on the clutch, there were no lower ratio sprocket combinations available, and moving to a 16-tooth drive gear wasn't an option with the time remaining until race day. While he was able to run a number of laps in the low 59-seconds, it simply wasn't enough to beat Justice Calabro who was turning low 58's, and even one lap at 57.999 for the fastest of the entire LO206 junior and senior class.
Additional issues with removing too much ballast and coming in underweight actually DQ'd Justin on the first heat, where he was a shoe-in due to Justice blowing an engine mid-run. Nevertheless, Justin fought hard and drove it strong, turning in very consistent lap times and walking away with a second place trophy. He intends to return shortly with the new front gearing for more testing so that he can determine the best ratio for the next run on the Grande layout.
