Sunday night's GP race at MB2 Sylmar landed Justin a fifth place overall finish in a full field (10-driver) race. The first qualifying heat was met with disappointment, as kart #1 was significantly under-performing, never quite getting remotely close to full speed. After checking with race control, Justin finally ended up waving other drivers past so as to not affect their lap times. The best he ran in this heat was a 21.359, costing him a whopping 220 points in his total RPM score. His second qualifying heat was a bit better, though still not optimal. He ran a 20.422 in kart #2, giving him enough speed for a P6 start in the final. With some generous coaching from Ulysses Washington III and Justin Schuoler, the final went pretty well. "I lost maybe a second or two on the initial start when my foot slipped on the gas", said Blumenfeld. He quickly recovered, and after a few laps, was able to take advantage of a wide turn in the first hairpin by Schuoler, diving hard to the inside to take away fifth. While unable to catch the front pack, his fast performing kart #6 was able to land him a fast lap time of 20.106. While Justin was vying to win the fastest lap of the week, which he held since the prior Tuesday, he was bested by the top two in the final and just missed clinching it by 0.013 seconds. Overall, he walked away with a few new techniques, and is sure to be back strong in two weeks for the next GP race.
